Wyndhaven does not bother with a countryside so I will answer for Fortune.
Despite the name, Fortune has more than its share of problems in these interesting times.
Loggers and trappers speak of being stalked and attacked by Razorbeak, The Owlbear. Recently, Cotton Perkings was killed by the beast but not before burying his axe in its face in a final act of desperation and defiance.
To the south, farmers have been harried by an Ankheg Queen and her nest attacking their livestock. So far, the creatures have ambushed animals at the edges of their grazing pastures, and, fortunately, no humans have yet been attacked.
Bandit Lord Kelem and his raiders (often called Kelem's Crew) prey on the trade caravans as they pass south of the city ruins. They leave well-defended trains alone and have also passed on the few fake caravans that Lord Corben has sent to draw them into a trap. Plenty of wealthy and powerful merchants would like to see Kelem's threat eliminated.
Though they have not caused any trouble directly for the town in recent memory, The Bloody Hand orc tribe and their ogre chieftain, Korg'Tar Fleshrender, are known to inhabit the mountains to the north. They have turned their attention to the city ruins and seek to steal the goods that Kelem's Crew has stolen from passing caravans. Korg'Tar is known to be a great warrior of tremendous strength.
Netherfang, Displacer Beast matriarch and her pride, prowl the forests and mountains alike. Her legend is old and few have ever laid eyes on her and survived.
