Animal Planet - Brief History Outline

A quick outline of the history of the worlds of Animal Planet/ISO.

A thousand years ago, the First Generation awoke on the surface of Prime with no knowledge of who they were or how they arrived. They were all fully grown adults, completely naked and unequipped, but possessing a common spoken language and an innate understanding of tools, technology, and society. Prime offered them an abundance of resources and a hospitable climate, and so the First Generation organized themselves and set about development and advancement of their nascent society.

Groups set out to explore the whole of Prime. Distance and adaptation led to fractionalization. Ancient ruins were discovered but their origin and purpose remained unknown. A single active ruin houses an AI, Mother, who aided in establishing a planet-wide communications network. They advanced scientifically and technologically very quickly but struggled with arts and entertainment.

The honorary Second Generation (actually several literal generations later), having advanced their understanding of science and technology to the point of achieving space flight, re-united the inhabitants of Prime with the goal of exploring beyond the planet's surface. The Confederation (or ConFed) was born.

Over the course of a century, colonies were established on hospitable worlds in the Prime solar system and terraforming began. Continued development of space flight technology eventually created the spike drive, allowing for travel to new stars and systems. The Third Generation traveled the stars and settled new planets. The Prime system and its closest neighbors, all heavily colonized, were deemed the Nexus. The scattered systems along the periphery that housed hospitable planets became known as the Rim.

A group of rabbits pushed to the edges of known space to colonize a new world very similar to Prime. They broke with the ConFed and established the Independent Lapine Republic. Decades later, the ConFed began to colonize the sector and forcibly re-integrated the ILR in a long and bloody war.

We now arrive at the modern day.
